Testing for meth is a controversial topic, and at Home and Work Drug Detection, we have dealt with our fair share of conspiracy theorists and internet trolls. So, we are taking this chance to set the record straight.
We present to you – Myths, Conspiracies and the Meth Epidemic
Myth #1 – ‘You only test for meth so that you can clean the house and make more money’
The meth testing industry has recently been described as a ‘cowboy business’ by some media outlets. Some people have been led to believe that testers will provide positive results so that they can then proceed to gain business decontaminating the property. Whilst we cannot speak for other businesses, we can proudly say that Home and Work Drug Detection is an INDEPENDENT AGENCY. This means that we do not carry out remedial work – we simply do the test and provide you with clear, concise results.
Home and Work Drug Detection will test your house, give you the results, and answer any questions that you may have. We are happy to provide advice on the level of contamination and areas of concern, but will not solicit you for more business in the form of decontamination services. We care about our community, and want you to get the information you require at an affordable price. To find out more about our process, check out our ‘Meth Testing Process’ Article.
Myth #2 – ‘The Meth Epidemic is just a media scare tactic’
Methamphetamine has been a problem in New Zealand for some time – and it is only recently that this has been brought to light through media outlets. The reality is that this is not a scare tactic, but an educational update. Meth is a problem in all community types and demographics throughout our country, and by dismissing it as simply ‘fake news’ we are not doing anything to help our communities. Home and Work Drug Detection aims to educate community members, landlords, tenants and homeowners alike. We want to get rid of this drug, and communities need to band together to do this.
Myth #3 – ‘You’re only in it for the money’
Home and Work Drug Detection is a family owned and operated company. The Home and Work drug detection team have all come from back rounds that have allowed them all to see the effects that meth can have on people and property. We provide an affordable service so that people from all walks of life can ensure that their families are living in a safe, meth-free home. If we were ‘in it for the money’ we’d be in the wrong business.
Myth # 4 – ‘Only poor areas are affected by meth contamination’
Meth is used by such a range of people, including women using meth to aide in weight loss, office workers using to help them stay up later and be more productive and transport operators using it to stay awake and cope with the long hours they are required to work. Do not assume that your property will be free from contamination purely based on demographics or location.
Myth #5 – ‘Meth contamination costs thousands to fix’
Low levels of meth contamination can be dealt with by giving windows and walls a good scrub. This is enough to clean up low levels of methamphetamine. High levels of contamination – as seen in houses where meth has been manufactured – does need extensive remedial work, but there is no point in paying for it unless it is required. The team from Home and Work Drug Detection will talk you through your results, and can advise on the type of clean up process that may be required.
